June: The ABCs of Black History
Dear Parents and Child Care Providers,
This month, as we revisit a meaningful favorite, we’re highlighting The ABCs of Black History by Rio Cortez, illustrated by Lauren Semmer, a vibrant and engaging book that introduces children to important figures, moments, and contributions throughout Black history. Through rhythmic language and bold illustrations, the story offers a foundation for learning, curiosity, and appreciation—reminding us that history is all around us and continues to shape our present and future.
As families read along, children are encouraged to ask questions, make connections, and celebrate the voices and stories that have helped build our communities. This book creates space for thoughtful conversations about identity, culture, and inclusion, while supporting a deeper understanding of the people and movements that continue to inspire progress and pride across generations.
