Trauma-Informed Care Core Series

This foundational 8-part training series explores Trauma-Informed Care in early childhood settings. Each module will help you better understand and support a child that has experienced trauma. Early Childhood Education (ECE) competencies covered in this training series include:

  • Child Development and Learning
  • Relationships
  • Interactions and Guidance
  • Family and Community Engagement
  • Professionalism

All training is conducted LIVE via Zoom and/or in-person, depending on community needs. The Core training series is designed and recommended to be completed in consecutive order as a cohort, however, you can also take individual training modules in any order. The languages offered for the training series will be in English, Spanish, and English with live Spanish translation. To enroll in the other 2 specialized series, Historical Trauma and SEEDS Series, the TIC Core 8-Module training series must be completed.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance after each training module and a Certificate of Completion after completing the entire series. Participants who have a California Early Care & Education Workforce Registry ID number can also receive 2-3.5 hours of professional development credit per module. Credit for any training will be added to your CA Registry account up to 30-days after training completion.

Orientation to the Emergency Childcare Bridge Program for Foster Children

English– Thursday, January 8, 2026

Spanish– Tuesday, November 25, 2025
This training discusses the challenges faced by children in the Foster Care system and reviews key findings from the Adverse Childhood Experiences study.  This training also introduces the concept of trauma-informed care as a best-practices for ECE settings that is being utilized in the Bridge Program.  Various components of the Bridge program are discussed as well as the professional development that is available through the Los Angeles County TIC Bridge trainings series.

 

Module 1: How Trauma Impacts Development, Part 1

This training introduces the concept of trauma-informed care and begins to discuss the impact of trauma on a child’s early development, particularly as it relates to brain development and the formation of the regulatory system.

 

Module 2: How Trauma Impacts Development, Part 2

English– Thursday, January 22, 2025

Spanish– Tuesday, December 23, 2025

This training builds on the concept of trauma-informed care and continues the discussion of how trauma impacts a child’s early development, particularly as it relates to the stress response system, sensory system, and attachment.

 

Module 3: Identifying Childhood Trauma

English– Thursday, January 29, 2026

Spanish– Tuesday, Enero 6, 2026

This training builds on the concept of trauma-informed care as it helps providers identify trauma behaviors in young children.  Providers will learn about explicit and implicit memories as well as normal stress responses in children.  Specific examples of dysregulated behaviors will be provided and strategies to create a safe environment for children will be discussed.

 

Module 4: Responding to Childhood Trauma, Part 1

English– Thursday, February 5, 2026

Spanish– Tuesday, Enero 20, 2026

This training builds on the concept of trauma-informed care by helping providers understand the message behind a child’s behavior and provides strategies to be more empathetic with all children.  Providers will learn the importance of using empathy with a child who is showing challenging behavior.

 

Module 5: Responding to Childhood Trauma, Part 2

English– Thursday, February 12, 2026

Spanish– Tuesday, Febrero 3, 2026

This training builds on the concept of trauma-informed care by helping providers promote executive functioning in children and by providing strategies to build healthy attachments between a child and a primary caregiver.  Trauma specific strategies that assist in soothing a dysregulated child will also be discussed.

 

Module 6: Strengthening Families

English– Thursday, February 19, 2026

Spanish– Tuesday, Febrero 17, 2026
This training builds on the concept of trauma-informed care by helping providers understand the risks and protective factors related to serving a Bridge child. Specific strategies for strengthening families are provided, offering more ways to engage the families of children in your care.

 

Module 7: Self-Care for Providers

English– Thursday, February 26, 2026

Spanish– Tuesday, Marzo 3, 2026

This training builds on the concept of trauma-informed care by helping providers understand how self-care impacts daily interactions with a child. Stress reducing strategies are also provided, offering more ways to help a childcare provider navigate the impact of working with children and families.
