April 2024: "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"
Dear Parents and Child Care Providers,
Happy April everyone! We are so excited to bring you this month’s read-along, song and activity! We join our friend, the tiny and VERY hungry caterpillar on his journey to becoming a beautiful butterfly!
This month’s focus is on metamorphosis, growth and development, tasting, and trying new foods, noticing change in the world around you, and realizing that math is everywhere.
“The Very Hungry Caterpillar” Read Along – Out Now!
Theme: Celebrating Earth Day – Monday, April 22nd
Connecting to Nature through math, measurement and metamorphosis
Prep First – “Rainbow Fruit Salad” Learning Activity
Before you dive into the Read Along, we highly recommend exploring our “Rainbow Fruit Salad” Learning Activity. This engaging project is a fantastic way for your kids to creatively connect with the story and prepare the same snacks that our friend the hungry caterpillar eats on his journey. Grab some apples, pears, plums, strawberries and oranges and lets make a fruit salad!
First Friday Song: “Counting Song: I Can Count Anything I See”
ONE Apple, TWO pears, THREE plums, FOUR strawberries, FIVE oranges! The hungry caterpillar shows us that math is everywhere!
After reading our story and enjoying making (and eating) a yummy fruit salad, listen to the counting song from PBS So Cal Family Math, and discuss with the child or children in your care about identifying numbers and teach them about the importance of counting and math.
At Crystal Stairs, we’re passionate about bringing educational and enjoyable content to your family. We believe in the power of storytelling, music, and art to enrich children’s lives.
Thank you for being a part of our First Friday journey. Grab some yummy fruits, eat and enjoy our reading of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”!
Warm regards,
Crystal Stairs, Inc.
