ABC 20/20 News Comes to Crystal Stairs

In late October, Crystal Stairs was contacted by ABC 20/20 News to help them profile the issue of working parents and child care. Crystal Stairs put 20/20 in contact with one of its Family Child Care Home providers, Ms. Brenda Morgan, owner and operator of Kidz Heaven Family Day Care, located in Carson.

The news program ended up filming at the family child care home of Ms. Brenda Morgan, owner of Kidz Heavenly Day Care, located in Carson. She is a provider with our LAUP hub.

Early in the morning, the camera crews arrived to film and talk with working mothers as they dropped off their children. Most of them hurriedly talked about the difficulties of raising a child on a limited income while in jobs that don’t afford great flexibility and/or upward mobility. Brenda talked about the many times she has had to accommodate families because of life’s unexpected. “This is an important issue and I am glad working families will be getting some national exposure”, said Holly J. Mitchell, CEO of Crystal Stairs. “What you don’t hear about is the millions of families who have jobs and yet still struggle to make ends meet. It is not a sexy issue, but it is one that millions of families face every day”.

Crystal Stairs was thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with 20/20 on helping to bring to national attention this important issue. The segment will air on November 10 on local ABC channels. Kudos to 20/20 for highlighting a crucial issue and for asking for our help!
